Sanda/San Shou also known as Chinese kickboxing is full-contact combat sport. Sanda is also a fighting system which was originally developed by the Chinese military based upon the study and practices of traditional kung fu and modern combat fighting techniques; it combines the skills of boxing and full-contact kickboxing, which includes close range and rapid successive punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps, kick catches, and in some competitions, even elbow and knee strikes. This program is designed to give the cutting edge in training for sport and competition for all levels.
Sanda/SanShou competition takes place on a raised platform called a lei tie roughly 27ft square and 32 inches high. This comes from the tradition in Chinese martial arts when various schools or systems issued challenges. The challenge match would be fought in a public place on a raised platform! (As seen in the Jet Lee movie "Fearless")
We offer this as a stand alone program for the person who may or may not be interested in learning the entire traditional curriculum but would like to focus on competition and getting in top physical shape. The classes are offered three nights a week with the Wednesday class being combine with the standard application classes which will included some training in (earth) ground fighting and combat. This class will be for ages 12 years old and up!
